Man, I HATE when that happens

Coupla things;

1) Wear your cammie blouse next time. It might not have stopped it, but on reflection, wouldn't it be swell to improve your chances (however slightly) of that never happening again?

2) RSO, good on you for grabbing the weapon. A little sooner next time, and then we can all sit back and watch him squeal, m'kay?

3) Why am I thinking of the Johnny Cash song, 'Burning Ring of Fire'? Hmm, must be because they're on ship...

When I was a squid, I was a Mech on an LCAC, and the Marines we were with wanted us to know how to shoot the M-16s we were given.

We got the safety lecture, got dressed in our blouses and flack jackets and helmets, and marched up to the flight deck on a ship that was 2 days from Somalia. So we were hot.

One of the LCAC navigators was a little too hot and while on the firing line, he undid his flak and opened his blouse, and caught a hot bit of brass in his T-shirt, which then traveled down and across his nipple, leaving a 2nd degree burn in it's wake.

Ohyeah, the ring of fire...

We had a rather "well endowed" young sailor getting checked out on the Ma Deuce on a Destroyer last year in 7th Fleet, so the instructor positioned her to the starboard of the gun as he "demonstrated" the procedures...

You guessed it, one round down the blouse, into the bra; she stripped in about 10 sec flat, didn't give a *it* WHO was standing there, and had a nice little 2nd degree burn in a "sensitive" location. Needless to say, training was canx and the instructor was "counseled" by the Master Chief.

Before I learned to let the flaps of the steel pot's camo cover hang down, I took a piece of 7.62x51 brass down the back of my neck while driving a gun jeep. More than one person thought they were gonna die as I tried to fish it out while keeping the jeep on the mountain road.

All together, people...what HAVE we learned here?

Correct...that TOP BUTTON on your fatigue shirt/BDU/DCU/ DOES serve a useful purpose, no matter how hot(or cold) it gets!

Know it, learn it, love it.

;)

Carry on.

I had a similar incident in the middle of an IDPA match. Forty-five brass landed between my glasses lens and eyelid.

I got a bit excited but did remember to set the safety on my 1911 first.

Second degree burn to my eyelid, first degree burn to my eye.

So all I gotta do is get hot brass in my blouse and I will be able to dance.
