Pshaw, Whippersnappers

Not too terribly long ago, I was over at a track, killin' time trying to get a feel for how my shins were. I was wandering around looking for a semi dry spot to stretch when I saw something that caught my eye.

A pair of ratty old USMC issued PT sweatpants.

I sidled up to the owner of said sweatpants and asked the ever popular gettin' to know you question, "So, who're'you with?"

He told me his old unit, and it just so happened that it was the same bunch that my unit relieved over in Iraq.

"Great outfit, says I", deciding that my shins were merely tender (and thankfully not worse), "good group of guys. We actually relieved y'all at Camp Cupcake in '04..." I prattled off, reliving some fond memories.

He let me continue for a while, doing his own stretches, before he interrupted with a grunt and a "Sheeit dude, I wasn't there way back in 2004, I was in boot camp then."

"Way back", sheesh.

Murph, at least you haven't had someone walk up to you and ask when you were in a particular outfit, then ask if you knew their DADDY!!! Which I did...sigh...

I want to type something clever, but all I can think is to point & laugh. ;-)

And then I remember what I was doing in 2004...Yeah. Old. We're old.

I'm still driving an '05 truck.
I think I'll take a nap.

I loved having a student in the Career Course (SSgt) that was one of my recruits at PI. Talk about feeling old...

At least the "kid" learned what it was like to speak to a seasoned vet.
Not a bad way to pass some time (imho).

(We ain't got time to get old, anyway)

;)

Carry on.

If Skip needs a nap for driving an '05 truck, I need a coffin for driving a '94.

*Chuckling*

I was pissin' and moanin' about this to a buddy o' mine the other day, and between the two of us (didn't even have to take off boots to help count) we figgured out that there are Marines, currently serving, that were born. in. the. friggin'. 90s!

Are they even off of mother's milk yet?
